Reflections

I have always loved beautiful textiles, color and art. My fascination with how fabric and color can bring life to a room or change a mood--accentuating the power of pattern and texture--is the reason I am a decorator.

Experimenting with a saturated palette of reds to pinks, I first decorated an upper northwest Washington DC apartment. A Georgetown row house and a flat in Old Town Alexandria soon followed. For one project, I discovered the luxurious paints of Farrow and Ball and decided to offset a café latte colored bedroom with a calamine pink ceiling. The effect was sublime.

As a diplomat I traveled to exotic and some turbulent places, but I always sought out village or city markets to see hand crafted locally made textiles and art objects. We styled our homes with treasures from trips. I learned to decorate bookshelves and layer decor with plants, candles, books and beautiful objects.

After Washington DC, I traced the path of my French ancestors who settled in Charleston, SC. I worked in a gallery in the French Quarter and learned about art composition and placement. Every spring, I volunteered as a docent for the House and Garden Tour which gave me access to Charleston’s quintessential design vernacular. This pre-revolutionary and early American style was juxtaposed with a clean coastal décor found in beach and marsh view homes.

Now settled in Chapel Hill, I am living a dream to create beautiful and functional spaces for others, turning a lifelong passion and hobby into a realized new business, DomiStyle Interiors.

Welcome home!
